Layering Patterns in Your Room Design

Putting together a room should be a thoughtful, creative process, and this includes the selection of fabrics and soft goods. Patterns are a dynamic way to add dimension and depth to a room. There are some rules to consider though, so it doesn't look like a chaotic, overdone mess! Take a look below.

  1. Apply the 60/30/10 approach. 60% of one pattern, 30% of another, 10% of the third as an accent pattern.

  2. Play with scale. Choose the largest pattern first, then smaller patterns in supporting roles.

  3. Don’t forget to include solid fabrics so the eyes have somewhere to rest.

  4. Try repeating colors in different patterns.
