Why to Hire a Designer For Your Remodel

A remodel is defined as changing the form or structure of something, and in our case it’s your home.  Remodeling is a messy, expensive, time-consuming undertaking. So why not have the right team members at the ready?

This isn’t the first time I’ve touched on this subject. I can’t tell you how many clients have brought me in once a remodel is “complete” to help with floor plans, design, and decorating. At this point subcontractors and the general contractor are long gone. What if we decide we want to add sconces, but the electrician only wired for ceiling fixtures? What if you were rushed to pick out a paint color that now you don’t like or doesn’t go with what you have?  What if a contractor left a niche out of the design of your shower and you don’t have a place for shampoo and conditioner bottles?

These missed details and steps backward can all be avoided!

What an interior designer does before and during a remodel:

  1. Brings the exoskeleton of the architectural plans to life

  2. Collaborates with the general contractor

  3. Can be the project manager: creates and manages the schedule of the project, bids and hires the subcontractors and ensures they adhere to the design

  4. Advocates for the client

There are some fantastic contractors out there, but not all have the skillset of a designer when it comes to aesthetics and functionality. Let’s get it right the first time!
