Think You Have to Do Construction to Create a Beautiful Kitchen? Think Again!
You want a kitchen like the ones you see on Instagram, Pinterest, and design magazines, but you don’t have the budget or the bandwidth right now for major construction. So what do you do?
People underestimate how much small changes can impact a room. And rest assured: you absolutely do not have to knock down any walls to achieve a stunning, inspired kitchen.
Below is a before and after of a kitchen I designed. Zero construction was involved.
So how can you do this yourself ? Here are 4 quick tips:
Swap out your lighting fixtures for ones that you love and reflect your style. Updating fixtures and adding a dimmer can have a powerful effect on the mood and atmosphere of a room.
Changing your cabinet and drawer hardware is often overlooked but impactful. Have consistent or mixed metal knobs and pulls, or add in color here.
A fresh coat of paint on the cabinets and walls can transform a room, whether you’re going for light and bright energy or a dark and moody scheme.
A kitchen rug or runner can inform your color palette, help tie it together, and warm up the room. Patterned or plain rugs work, and if it’s easy to clean, all the better.
The great news about this list is that if you’re handy, you could do all of these updates on your own. And even if you’re not, hiring an electrician and painter will cost significantly less than paying an architect and general contractor. Remember, little changes add up!
