Get the Look of Black Steel for Less

Black steel windows and doors are gorgeous, sleek, strong….and PRICEY!

I was recently trying to source two black steel “window pane” office doors for a client remodel project. I spoke to several vendors, both local and out-of-state. Materials are already higher right now than normal, but the bids that came back were incredibly discouraging. Unless the client is willing to take a close look at the budget and reallocate funds strategically just for these doors, other options need to be considered.

Enter our GC and carpenter, William Templeton. He recently installed this show-stopper of a wine cellar door using an aluminum clad version of the black steel door. Still sleek, still does the job, and at half the price. Another benefit of aluminum clad is that you can paint the interior wood any color you like.

Take a look at the photos below. One is aluminum clad (clearly you know which one now that I’ve told you) and one is black steel.

Can you truly tell the difference?

Either way, t’s a win for our clients and the design team here!
