Why Hiring a Project Manager for Your Remodel Will Change Everything

So you have an architect and she’s drawn up plans. You’ve found your interior designer who’s also created computer images to scale, bringing the architectural plans to life. The architect and/or designer can recommend a contractor to perform and potentially manage the physical construction of the project.

What about a project manager though? This may be the life-saving professional you haven’t considered hiring yet. Project managers ultimately oversee and coordinate the construction process. This is an essential service I offer along with my interior design services.

What a project manager can do for you:

  • Bid out sub-contractors, such as electricians, plumbers, painters, wallpaper hangers, etc.

  • Schedule these contractors at the appropriate times

  • Collaborate and communicate with all contractors, i.e. be the middle-woman

  • Manage the budget

Let’s face it, you are busy with your own life, work, family, and friends. A project manager can take all these extra duties off your hands and act in your best interest at the same time. Unforeseen hiccups are to be expected during any remodel, and you’ll be reassured you won’t have to put out those fires yourself.

The best thing about being both an interior designer and a project manager is that I view the project from a dual lens: an aesthetic as well as a management one. Another crucial aspect of this role is the previously established relationship with the client; trust and communication are key to success here.

Have you worked with interior designers who offer this service? What was your experience?
