All You Need to Know About Setting the Table
Have you ever wondered how to set the table correctly? And for a variety of events, from everyday meals to dinner parties? In any situation, it’s crucial to consider the details, such as china, table linens, centerpieces, and glassware.
I personally love to use mismatched vintage china for my everyday meals as well as my dinner parties. I use vintage water glasses, which also can be used as wine glasses-I’m not big on stemware. Either myself or my kids will inevitably knock a stemmed wine glass over.
Onto setting the table. The basics:
Begin with a placemat. For fancier occasions, use a charger.
Place down the dinner plate in the center of the placemat, layering the salad plate, and finally the soup bowl on top, if soup is being served.
If using a bread plate, that goes to the upper left corner of the table setting.
Consider a napkin ring for the napkin or fold it either inside the soup bowl/salad plate or under the fork.
Place the dinner fork to the left of the plate, and the salad fork to the left of that. The knife goes to the right of the plate, followed by the spoon. The desert spoon lays horizontally above the plate.
The glassware is placed at the top right of the plate. First the water glass, then the red and white wine glasses behind it. The red glass is on the right and white on the left, slightly staggered (that pretty picture below is WRONG, but pretty-I love gold and peonies).
Some people use a runner to fancy up a table.
Add lots of greenery and candles.
Make sure your centerpiece (s) doesn’t/don’t block any guests from seeing each other.
