Want to Wallpaper? Read This First!
Have you been wanting to add wallpaper to your home, but are scared of what to pick, what vendor to purchase from, how to install? Fear no more!
Wallpaper can add dimension, texture, and interest to walls, and can be a form of self expression. Many patterns of wall coverings and wallpaper available today are reminiscent of works of art. Take a look at this design by Fine & Dandy, Co. below.
Here’s what I’ve learned about using wallpaper:
1. Use traditional wallpaper only, especially in a room with humidity. Peel and stick can bubble and peel.
2. Hire a professional wallpaper hanger. Since you’re using traditional wallpaper, this is a no-brainer. Seek out referrals or use your local social media groups to find a hanger with a solid reputation and in your price range.
3. Make sure you skim coat your walls first. This is a smoothing process so the wallpaper adheres evenly and completely. Many hangers offer this service. Painters do as well.
4. Purchase the correct amount of rolls. Your hanger can give you an estimate of what you’ll need based on room and wall dimensions. Let your hanger know if your wallpaper has a repeat pattern.
As for where to source wallpaper, Pinterest is full of ideas. An interior designer can also assist with sourcing and procurement, and receives designer discounts on many vendors that can benefit you as the client.
